| Site Name | Description | Photograph |
|---|---|---|
| Amphitheatre | Descend along a sloping sandy bottom and pass through a large, v-shaped coral archway in 70 ft. of water, and emerge at a sheer coral cliff face. On top of the cliff you will find many schools of colourful tropical fish, stingrays, nurse sharks, etc. Beyond the dropoff, anything is possible: whales, sharks, manta and eagle rays, dolphins, ...! |
| Black Forest | Reach the edge of the dropoff in 50 ft. of water, and descend along the overhang to a depth of 80 ft. Four kinds of black coral adorn the cliff in great profusion. Scattered in the shadows along the wall are hundreds of blackcap basslets. You will see groupers, ocean triggerfish, turtles, and much more. |
| The Library | Opposite the island library, this site offers an unforgettable night dive. In only 50 ft. you can observe the diversity of creatures which emerge after dusk on the sheer precipice and in the shallows above. On one dive you may see all types of cardinalfish, flamefish, octopi, giant spider crabs, sleeping parrotfish, and a variety of feeding eels. All this amongst masses of orange and yellow coral polyps. |
| Coral Garden | A spectacular shallow dive (30-50 ft.), 'Coral Garden' slopes gently out of sight. Here you will find the friendliest fish on the island. Groupers will approach you close enough to be petted (no gloves please!!), gray angelfish and queen triggerfish abound, as they do at most sites. Turtles are frequently seen. |
| Tunnels | Descend to 30 ft. and follow along the inner cliff edge to an opening in the coral. Swim through the narrow tunnel and find yourself at 60 ft. on a vertical wall. Your experienced divemaster will guide you on a leisurely exploration along the dropoff, pointing out creatures of interest living within the crevices and the pelagics in the open water behind you. Manta rays are frequently spotted here in summer. |
| Chief Minister's | Also known as 'The EX-Chief Minister's' because of the short term nature of the government position. Here you will find the usual incredible variety of sea life along and beyond the cliff, while in the shallows above, you will see razorfish, stingrays, hundreds of garden eels, and, with luck, batfish and flying gurnards! In deeper water (~80ft) you may spot the shy sunshinefish. |
| Governor's Beach | Possibly the island's best shore dive, the beach is also a great place to lounge in the sun. Enter the sea from the beach and swim towards the dropoff. As you proceed, you will encounter grassy beds inhabited by bandtail puffers, young nassau groupers, sand tilefish, razorfish, batfish, flying gurnards, and uncommonly seen juveniles of many reef species. Head instead towards the abandoned pier and you will find barracuda, cottonwicks, juvenile blackfin snappers, and a variety of small creatures sheltered by the large pilings. |
